Thanks Tommy. If I'm reading the HCL correctly, that laptop was tested with the Dell (Broadcom) WIFI card. My laptop has the Intel PRO/Wireless card. Am I understanding that correctly or does the HCL mean that no wireless card will work?

Looking at the Hardware Compatibility List it looks like the wireless is unfortunately not supported yet. http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/data/systems/details/807.html > Now, as I mentioned already - this is my very first attempt at using a > Linux/Unix OS. Anything Solaris is UNIX and there's actually no big difference compared to Linux for a newbie. The devil's in the details. > Anyway - being that I've never used OpenSolaris or any similar OS > before, how exactly do I find, install & configure the driver? Can someone point me to an > Open Source A/V application that I can install and run on OpenSolaris? I've spent as much time on UNIX that you've on DOS/Windows and been in the Internet since late 80's with hundreds of machines not paying more than basic attention to security and I've _never_ seen a virus on UNIX. I know there were something called the Internet Worm back in -88 but I don't think it made it's way over to Europe. So, don't be afraid of viruses on UNIX. (I've seen intruders, DoS attacks and other funny things, but never viruses.) But I tell you what. If you want to start looking at UNIX and especially OpenSolaris 2008.05 then I'll recommend that you run it in VirtualBox on you big shiny Windows XP desktop. It's far more easy to get going for someone with your experience. http://www.virtualbox.org/ _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list [email protected] _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list [email protected]
