This is probably not a very fair comment. It is quite clear that you've never
used SXCE before, thus, again, I don't know how you could talk about SXCE as if
it were so inferior?

Before osol 2008.05 came out, we routinely installed every single build of SXCE
(& the predecessors thereof). We also have SXDE on most machines in a
multi-sliced configuration. However, since SXDE is usually several builds
behind SXCE, we actually very seldom booted into SXDE.

If Sun had infinite resources--something no one can claim to have nowadays,
yes, it is desirable to have both SXCE and SXDE (& this and that). I know I am
going to be stoned for saying this, but since for each SXDE there is always a
corresponding SXCE build, I have always wondered why duplicate (& thus waste)
precious resources.

However, the issue about SXCE is its unpredictable quality, a consequence of
too frequent updates. We used to have forum members who would report what
SXCE's to avoid. For desktop users, B91 is a recommended upgrade for SXDE. In
the future, I would suggest using the SXCE build which will form the basis for
osol 08.11, which will be updated every six months.
