Bruno subsequently proposed a rtl8xxxu patch which replaces the driver
in question. I do not know if OpenWrt has yet accepted the patch. My
hardware became reliable after manually applying the patch and rebuilding
the kernel.

I am not sure if your hardware uses the same driver as mine.
