Replaced the PSU with a Samsung OEM unit rated for 5V/2A DC output.

I have also added an external USB HUB (power from RasPi) and added
another USB dongle (same chip set).
Indeed the RasPi is now working like a charm.

Performance of RTL8192 driver is still flaky. WiFi networking goes
downhill over a period of time.

I read through the thread Michael posted and also found this change request
<https://dev.openwrt.org/changeset/48104>

Unfortunately, I don't have the expertise to build the module for the
RasPI target.

I am reading up on building single opkg.
<https://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/devel/packages>

If there in an rtl8xxx opkg for 15.05 please let me know.

<workaround>
Luckily the RasPi boots in under 30 seconds. I have set up a cron
job to reboot it every 4 hours which brings back the WiFi network
connectivity.
</workaround>

Thanks for your tips Tom and Michael.
