did you uncheck that in your new project or the global Properties?

I think that's a little confusing to some people in FLASC - the Properties>Default Tags are just meant to be used when you create a new project as your "Default" settings.  But then after the project is created, it has it's own set of tags.  So, be sure to edit the tags in your project (hold SHIFT+LMouse to edit a project)

Yes.

Thanks, so I changed it to the Macromedia core classes directory as you suggested ( I didn't realize FLASC was asking for the Macromedia directory I guess – I thought "core Flash classes" meant MY core default class directory), but when I did that, I got a different error in MTASC:

"C:/Documents and Settings/[my username]/Local Settings/Application Data/Macromedia/Flash 8/en/Configuration/Classes/mx/core/UIObject.as : 66 : Characters 8-25 : type error Type requires in strict mode" – version 8

I unchecked the "-strict" tag in MTASC default parameters in FLASC settings, but the error didn't go away.   Any idea what's causing that?
