Hi Jason,

I believe the XSI tools are for the .mdl format, which are used for both the static and physics props in the maps. These aren't working yet, but I've been asked by the sponsor to do this next. Unfortunately, there isn't nearly as much documentation for this format, so it'll take some digging. Stay tuned.

Cool! So what tools are used to make .bsp files in Half-Life 2? Or more to the point, what tools will we open-source users be able to use to make some, to use in OSG with your plugin?

So if I understand well, .bsp is used for the maps themselves, and .mdl for the actors, props and dressing in the level? Is that approximately correct?

Most of that is covered in the VBSP_README.txt file. It's mostly base geometry and textures, although I did add support for the displaced terrain tiles, which require a shader to properly draw the blended textures.

So none of those nice specular maps and fancy shaders will be supported? I expect actual HL2 maps will look quite different when loaded into OSG compared to in the game if that's the case. Any plans to make it more complete?

Thanks to you and your sponsor for creating and contributing this!

J-S
