Hi Sebastian, Thanks for checking out my post. Your input gives me a reference point that confirms my environment might be the problem.
I was loading cube_mapped_torus.osgt from OpenSceneGraph-Data-3.4.0.zip. Please see attached screen shot. I'll follow your advice to disable composition and see what happens.
