Jessica, one of the reasons I post my "reports" on this site is
because ALL messages are publicly archived. So, if some one ever does
a Google search for let say, "shoulder arc", they will find OTnow's
messages. I really don't know if anything that's said on this forum
ever makes a difference in our profession, but I'm optimistic.

Also, I think that many of the OT's who routinely practice using
shoulder arcs, pegs, cones, etc will say one of two things:

1. They ARE doing functional activities

2. They are preparing people for functional activities.

I don't think many OT's will say that they are NOT working on
functional activity, regardless of what they are actually doing!

Ron

Subj: [OTlist] Shoulder Arc

JRG> Probably was OT's, but instead of having a dialogue on our site where
JRG> people know better, lets bring these concerns to a wider group of OT's.
JRG> Maybe you could do a survey of OT's in Florida and find out just how
JRG> many are actually doing functional activities.

JRG> Subject: [OTlist] Shoulder Arc

JRG> I evaluated a new patient today, actually the husband of a former
JRG> patient. He was just d/c from rehab. During the eval, he talked a
JRG> little about his rehab. He stated that some of what he did was a
JRG> "waste of time". He then provided two examples of what he considered
JRG> wasting his time:

JRG> 1. The shoulder arc

JRG> 2. Picking up cones

JRG> Granted, the above could have been either with a PT or OT, but I
JRG> suspect it was the rehab's OT doing the above 'exercises'.
