Can we stop BITCHING about what others are doing and rather try and set examples ourselves????
I DO use shoulder arcs, but it depends on what I am trying to achieve. I am very annoyed by these postings that keep criticizing "those other" OTs out there in the ether. Grumble. It is very easy to point fingers at our fellows, but gosh, it is really so much nicer to hear success stories. So here is one: Yesterday I gave a talk on low vision. It was scheduled as part of our hospital's ongoing public continuing education seminars. Over 30 people registered and only 4 showed up. I still gave my talk. One lady, when she walked out, told the organizer, "she has just saved my life". This woman was told by her doctor that she should just "learn to live with it" and she "was going blind, nothing to do for it". Typical. I was very humbled by the experience. One person at a time. Oh well, I hope everyone is doing well. The weather here is wonderful, so I am going home. Gross Subject: Re: [OTlist] Shoulder Arc Jessica, one of the reasons I post my "reports" on this site is because ALL messages are publicly archived. So, if some one ever does a Google search for let say, "shoulder arc", they will find OTnow's messages. I really don't know if anything that's said on this forum ever makes a difference in our profession, but I'm optimistic. Also, I think that many of the OT's who routinely practice using shoulder arcs, pegs, cones, etc will say one of two things: 1. They ARE doing functional activities 2. They are preparing people for functional activities. I don't think many OT's will say that they are NOT working on functional activity, regardless of what they are actually doing!
