It's the first time that I'm taking part in a discussion on this list,
however it's a very important subject. I think there's a great lack of
knowledge when it comes to talk about money and market(s). I highly
recommend the work of Thomas H. Greco, Jr. particularly his book "The
End of Money And the Future of Civilization", a must read for those who
are interessted in a alternative money and banking system. Greco talks
about mutual credit and about four essential components (for a Web-Based
Trading Platform): Marketplace - Social Network - Means of Payment -
Means of Measure. Take a look at his site, very enlightening. For those
who understand german, there's a practical guide for a mutual credit
system (similar to Greco) called "Handbuch zur Geldemission für
jederman" written by Olga Förtsch. Links below.
