My guess is that having the dark pixels glow is an unavoidable compromise
with the technology that makes the improved display even possible. Something
about having cake or eating it or whatever...

only when the room is very dark it looks like
the older models.. when in normal conditions,
it does not look like older models - just
impossible to read.
i wish they did not change it..
