There are problems with the .8 shortcut. First, some systems that have
been HotSync'd with data an older device don't have it. Second, it's easy
to accidentally type shortcut-dot-5, which erases your HotSync name.
Third, the .8 shortcut's effect doesn't survive a reset, and needs to be
repeated.
For a more flexible solution that inverts the backlight on both the old and
the new devices, lets you switch between backiight modes with a pen stroke,
and stays active after a reset, check out LightHack at my site
