On Windows, to be sure that HotSync is completely off, make sure that it
does not appear in the System Tray area i.e. right next to where your clock
is on the Windows Taskbar. Personally I found that the best way to avoid
this is to set HotSync is run only when the Palm Desktop is running.
To be sure that 'shortcut tap tap 2' (it will appear on the device as
'shortcut.2' since the two taps appear as one period '.') enter on the Find
dialog. If recognized correctly by the device the whole line should
disappear and there should be no up-arrow at the lower right of the Find
dialog. FYI, 'shortcut dot dot 2' is one of the Palm OS programmer
shortcuts; a complete list of such shortcuts is in a Palm Knowledge Base
article on the website.
Other things to check: if your serial port is being used by something else,
such as Windows CE Services; as well as making sure the serial port on the
device is free - a soft reset will usually free it up if it is locked; make
sure that your previously downloaded app is not running when trying to
debug. And you should also make sure that Constructor is not running when
trying to debug as this will also prevent debugging because of a 100% CPU
usage bug that's in Constructor.
