You seem to have a misconception that developers != public. Companies in
general have enough of a hard time keeping the wraps on something when
people in house know about it. What makes you think they should tell
everyone on a mailing list where anyone can sign up?
Developers ARE the public. If you don't want to tell the public, you
don't tell the external developers. There's probably a bunch of
"journalists" watching this conversation right now.
