Starting with PalmOS3.5, you can use the API to se the screen into 4 bpp mode
by calling WinScreenMode with the correct parameters.
Unfortunately, PalmOS 3.5 does not allow 4 bpp grayscale on all of the
devices which are capable of it ( those having an EZ processor ).
In this case, you can use Till's exemples on how to set up grayscale mode,
by acceding to the LCD hardware directly, but you will not be able to use the
API any more, and you will need to write yourself all the functions you use.
