> Customers potentially order any item. > But for inventory / price check / ordering applications then > any item can be used at any time.
>From my experience working for an accounting software company, I can tell you that there are plenty of occasions when this is not the case. It depends entirely on your business, and what the app is to be used for. Examples where your whole product line are not necessary/possible : 1. Delivering to shops/supermarkets/vending machines. It is quite common for customers to only use a subset of your entire line. Any decisions to buy another product are normally taken at quite another level if the shop (or whatever) is part of a chain. However, other shops will take a different subset. If you know who you're going to be visiting... 2. Standardised industrial parts. My experience was that it was relatively rare for any customer to use the whole range. Eg in the car making industry, Holden (GM in Australia) only ever used particular shock absorbers, while you may also be supplying Mitsubishi with a completely different set. 3. Industries where custom items are the norm. (Actually, I would think that these types of industries are often not well suited to PDA use, as the ordering apps are often quite complex.) 4. Repairs. If you know what you will be repairing, then you don't necessarily need the whole spare parts database. Maybe you don't even have a database of all possible spare parts (I've seen this). Just a few off the top of my head :-) Cheers, Jim Cooper ____________________________________________ Jim Cooper [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tabdee Ltd http://www.tabdee.ltd.uk TurboSync - Connecting Delphi with your Palm ____________________________________________ -- For information on using the Palm Developer Forums, or to unsubscribe, please see http://www.palmos.com/dev/support/forums/
