Sorry guys... but you "pay" for the licence key. The discs are a dime a dozen. And most machines come preinstalled with windows now. They don't **have** to supply a disc. They only have to supply the thing you paid for.. the licence key. :) I too have been in the IT industry for the last 10 years. Not that it matters... LOL
Have a copy of the discs means nothing if you don't have a viable licence key. And if the key has been used before, I think you only have a few times of installing it on different machines before it stops and you have to ring MS. Oh, and if you do use the same key on different machines, you basically remove the registration from the other machine. <sigh> It's all very arrogant and controlling. You mean that it was installed and you didn't get the disks? Several of the main companies have taken to doing that but if you ask them they will send you the disks. You paid for them and you will need them if your disk ever crashes. If you have ever bought a machine with windows on it and are not currently using that copy on another computer (you changed the OS, the computer died, etc.) you can safely use that copy on another machine or in a virtualization environment. I am an IT professional (25 years) and everyone I know has copies of all sorts of OSs laying around so it's never been a problem to come up with a legal copy of Windows. I even have an MSDN subscription! If you ask around you may be able to find a copy of XP that you can use. Especially now since Microsoft has discontinued support for XP. Thanks for keeping us straight! :) Steve Steve, I can't recall the last time I bought a machine that had a copy of the OS included except already installed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- No virus found in this incoming message.
