Agreed, however I wasn't suggesting anyone pirate a copy. If you have ever bought a machine with windows on it and are not currently using that copy on another computer (you changed the OS, the computer died, etc.) you can safely use that copy on another machine or in a virtualization environment. I am an IT professional (25 years) and everyone I know has copies of all sorts of OSs laying around so it's never been a problem to come up with a legal copy of Windows. I even have an MSDN subscription! If you ask around you may be able to find a copy of XP that you can use. Especially now since Microsoft has discontinued support for XP. Thanks for keeping us straight! :) Steve Bones wrote: > > > > Steve..virtualbox is great, that's how I run my copy of Windoze in Linux > but....you have to be <very> careful installing it particularly if you > haven't bought a copy. > This group isn't the place to get into the subject but briefly > Microsoft will take you and crush you like a recalcitrant insect if they > catch you with a dodgy copy installed on your computer and they are > rather vigourous in their protection of their EULA to the point of, I > believe, AU $275,000 for a business and somewhere in the vicinity of AU > $40,000 for a user. > I'm not preaching here...I don't like them at all, but I thought it best > to mention the dangers of fooling with unlicensed copies of their junk > software even in a virtual machine for members of this group.
