Steve,

As Mandy said, it's the license for the OS that you pay for; they're
not required to provide a backup or original copy. I haven't been able
to do anything with the recovery discs; they mainly allow the machine
access to the locked "recovery partition" on the hard drive, where all
the good stuff is actuall stored. And no, I haven't figured out how to
get into those folders and files, either.
