Yeah, I see them as crap mostly. As to message... some of them try to change the message and "update" it, Hence, ruining the message. If they have a new message they should make a new story. let the old message stay with the old story because it was WRITTEN for it. But, on occasion, I like a remake. I, for one, did not "mind" the King Kong remake. No, it was not the classic and it is not going to BE a classic.... but I enjoyed the art and SFX. I thought the American Godzilla stank as a story and as far as any acting is concerned... but I never watched Godzilla for the acting. It was the monster... and I can compartmentalize this movie as something different than the "real" Godzilla. It was a fun flick for a waste of time.
But over all... most of the remakes today lose the soul of the originals because it is all about MONEY and bean-counting. The studios was tried and true movies rather then innovation and experimentation because they want the built in fan base to bring money even if the flick is a stinker.
