My 486 router runs Fresco which cost $00.00, the hardware cost the
same (all old 'junk' that I had kicking about) and the power
consumption is about 20W. this may be more than your dedicated router
but it will take quite a long time to run up that much of an
electricity bill.
NB I configured this unit for economy, Vga disabled, cpu underclocked,
notebook hdd and no fans.
also I used a slimline desktop unit so it takes up less space.
