Unless you want to get into video editing or some other  field that really
shines with a fast computing machine, I would stick with what you got until it
doesn't work any more.  Get some ram, mebbe a new HD, invest the $3000, and
once that makes you another $3000, by a quad g5 processor machine for $40. 

Buying new is the best way of throwing money away, especially if you already
have a working machine.  Don' think "Shiny fast new!" think "Depreciation,
depreciation, depreciation".  You should not be spending more than $500 bucks
on a computer (unless yr going for a laptop).  They're just not worth it!
