Since you are able to mount it, I would suggest checking the volume bits. Silverlining Pro (v. 6.1) lets you set the volume as auto-mounting (or not) at startup. Your best bet is to look around for this option in the utility you used to format the IBM drive, or replace the drivers with another utility and go from there.
Cheers, Jesse I installed an FWB PCI Jackhammer UltraWide card and a 10krpm 18gig IBM U2W drive. The drive does not mount at startup, but I can manual mount it with Hard Disk Setup.
