Some older software that is unable to distinguish between SCSI buses 
is a problem with identical IDs.. The latest scanner software from 
UMAX is, AFAIK, one of these still.  But I've worked with a server 
and workstation that have heavily loaded SCSI buses and seen no sign 
of "instability".
