I started with 7.5 on a 7500 and tried every upgrade reaching 8.6, avoiding 8.1. Like you, I settled into some variety of 7.6 and stayed there for the longest time. From there it was one leap to 8.6 where I've been for about 2 years now. The ,6 versions have been very nice environments for me and system 8.6 stable as a rock on 601 chip with 80 megs of ram. (Photoshop 3 & Quark 3 etc.) About the OS-hardware theory, well I agree with it. I have installed G4 extensions and libraries though, from an Install Disk when the Installer refused to do an Easy Install of OS9. With the help of TomeViewer, I should add. Simplicity and good housekeeping helps.
BTW, I was speaking to Velocity today and those that ordered 128 mb dimms around the 20th of March should have been notified about shipping today. I was, and thanks again to everyone that responded to my velocity inquiry. Roman -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
