Excellent point Reverend!

The 9600 requires a minimum of 7.5.5  for the 200/300 MHz models;
or 7.6.1 through 9.1 for the 300,350s.

My 9500 calls for System Enabler 701 v.1.0 - if running  as low as 7.5.2.
