the 'lay out' refers not to anything to do with hard disk or Macs or 
anything else. It's a term referring to coughing up a wad of cash for 
an item or items. Case of 'divided by a common language' I guess.

Nope, a PCI card will work handsomely and allow you to get the best 
from an Ultra160 drive.

Not at all. I've done it, to a limited extent, and seen it done an a 
Beige G3 MT. It's a good thing if you can afford it.
