>Someone on the list said Real Player wasn't a desirable program to say the >least - I'm ready to listen now <grin>
"RealPlayer not desirable." That would be an understatement. The worst part about it is that even if you tell it not to, it seeks out every media file on your entire computer and claims rights to it (i.e. associates itself with RealPlayer instead of your preferred music player). It is the single most intrusive piece of software I have ever used on either Mac, Windows, or Linux. RealOne is 10 times worse. >Here's what else I have on CD but as yet know next to nothing about: >Adaptek Jam 2.5 >Toast 5 >Coaster 1.1.3 >Player Pro 5.02 >Sound Studio 2.0.1 >SonicWORXArtistBasic Toast & Jam are fabulous programs for mastering music (Jam) and burning CDs (Toast). Although I currently only use the Windows version of Toast (called Roxio; I don't yet have a burner compatible with my Macs) I have used both before and would recommend nothing else for either platform. Coaster is also good, don't know much about the others. >Will any of these play RA (Real Audio) files or do they demand "Real Player"? Nope. RealPlayer is more proprietary than even Windows Media. >I have Quicktime 5 and it works beautifully for MP3s. Yep, truly the swiss army knife of all media users/creators. -- --Chris PM 7500/604e 200Mhz 4 gig SCSI 256 megs OS 8.6 (This machine rocks!) -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
