Every so often I have noticed that in OS9/9.1 filesharing seems to go currupt. Sometimes I can fix it (on my 7300/G4/OS9.0.4) by replacing the extensions and preferences and setting up again.
I do occasional work in an office where they have both an 8600 and a G4 graphite which cannot be seen in the chooser of any of their other machines. The only way to copy a file is to go the 8600 or G4 and and do the operation from there, using a third machine/disk which can be 'seen' if necessary to copy between the two (!). On restart and the 8600 announces that 'filesharing could not be enabled'. They are not very technical and so have not set up any special sharing and have lived with this problem for months. I have recently encountered a G4 quicksilver (OS9.2) with the same problem. Usually the problems with my 7300 will start after a crash. It's the one thing that seems to get damaged. Sometimes inserting a CD into my 7300 will bring up the 'filesharing could not be enabled' dialog, when up to that point everything was fine. Another situation I have encountered is where the filesharing takes ages to start up (i.e. 10 or 15 minutes). The icon on the control strip will wink with lots of disk activity until finally the sharing comes on and the machine can then be seen in the chooser of the other machines. Filesharing seems to be the flakiest part of the Mac OS. Any suggestions? Nick [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
