Thanks for all the responses on this one.

All the computers on my network have different names so no issues there.

The G4-733 has a 40GB hard drive so that probably answers the slowness of
the sharing start-up; however it started up a lot quicker before it suffered
a system crash.

The 7300/G4 responds to having the filesharing extensions replaced whenever
I have this problem. Fortunately a long time ago I made a CD copy of the
system and applications when the machine was in a good stable period of
operation so I reach into it and copy over the required bits. (Also handy
for a complete reinstall.)

It just seems to me that as soon as a Mac starts to misbehave, the
filesharing seems to be the first thing to stop working.
