I can't say what problem you were having but I can say that I've got 
my name as the owner on over a dozen machines here and the only 
problems I've ever had with FileSharing were directly attibutable to 
other things and those are rare.

There would really be no reason, the FileSharing server on one 
machine doesn't interact with the FileSharing server on another.  The 
only connection is that when you attempt to connect to any machine 
the AppleShare client puts the Owner's name in by default.
