Believe it or not, sometimes even the TechTool Pro 3 disk needs to be loaded
with extensions off.  Load the disk via C, then as soon as you have grab,
hit and hold SHIFT until a complete load.  The disk will run as normal and
you can do your tests and repairs.  You may still find the problem is not
battery related, but a serious screw up in extensions or a serious
corruption of any number of software ops, from finder to prefs load.
