He's only got 81M in virtual memory, so if he doesn't need more space, wouldn't he get the same effect by turning off virtual memory without adding more memory? One suggestion I'd have is to look at the hard drive and SCSI system. If it's using the original drive, I bet a newer drive and/or SCSI card would speed things up substantially. It all does depend on what the programs need, of course. Hmmm... on my powerbook (540c, 68040 lite) I have a bootable ram disk. On that, I use it for longer battery life, but it would also give more performance!
