Um, do you all have ANY clue of the magnitude of headaches, hassles and
pain it would be for Apple to suddenly hop to X86 processors?

EVERY SINGLE APPLICATION has to be recompiled for a new processor target.

This means EVERY SINGLE APPLICATION DEVELOPER has to buy a NEW freakin'
Mac or Apple's got to get cross compilers into the hands of every
developer, AND keep this all secret, like since WWDC, last MAY!

Moreover, this means that developers, distributors and everyone else has
to maintain TWO different Mac versions of their software for quite some
time...someone who just bought a dual 1.25 GHZ machine is not going to
buy another Mac in January.

Have the os run on a new chip is barely the beginning of this process.

Your mac would run fast as all get out. It also wouldn't RUN much of
anything for quite a while.

In this economy, it would kill Apple....they've had a hard enough time
gettin OS X and associated applications out the door.

Remember: back when Steve Jobs announced OSX and the Carbon stuff for
people to port their apps to OSX quickly, Adobe enginners were there
with a carbonized copy of Adobe Photoshop that they'd done in a weekend.

It took what, two and a half years before Photoshop 7 *finally* arrived?

Quark is now 'working' on an OSX port.

I expect that rather than warmly embracing this change, 90% of the
copanies out there would simply drop Mac versions...
