It looks like the IBM PowerPC 970 chip will implement the Altivec instruction
set <http://www.arstechnica.com/wankerdesk/3q02/power4-apple.html>.

Given that, I can't think of a single reason why Apple wouldn't be begging
to use these new IBM processors.  :)
