While these comments have been informative and I agree CD is a better media, in the interest of balance, we should recognize that those who don't have problems aren't going to complain on-list.
I've been using the same two-dozen disks to back up my HD every week since ZIP was introduced without one media failure. Of the 50-some disks I have, the only failure I suffered was a result of misalignment in a "click of death" drive, which Iomega replaced at no cost.
