Your explanation is very accurate (IMHO).

I also thought (like you) that
I would have No Use for Tabs.
But, I quickly learned that
Tabs are an enormous improvement.
They make browsing faster, and easier.

As you point out, opening
multiple windows is vastly inferior to tabs.
