Two reasons: either the RAM is in fact physically
impaired, or the RAM is mismatched in some way. Could
be the speed or the refresh rate. As I remember it, an
8500 doesn't need matched sets of quantity (as in
matched 64 meggers in pairs of slots) but the speed or
refresh rate could be a factor. My guess is that the
RAM is just deficient.
