Would that cause this kind of symptom, though? I was more suspicious of a
mechanical failure because it makes some occasional soft sounds like the
drive is trying to spin up, but can't quite make it. I should think a dead
controller wouldn't even try to do that, but I would appreciate re-education
if my assumption is wrong :-)
