I can only tell you that I do these things to keep NS 4.8 running
perfectly:

Trash the Cache folder, MagicCookie, and Netscape History files after
each session.

Keep your bookmarks in folders and don't have too many hanging down, that
chokes it.

I turn off a lot of automatic stuff in the prefs, and trash the
TALKBACK.ini from the Netscape folder.

Back in the days when I was using a IIvx and a 7100/80 I used
Netscape 4.78 with Earthlink and had a few problems. The tech told
me to do these steps also to keep the browser trouble free, which it
was.

I was JUST wondering HOW SLOW WAS THAT ? 4.78 on IIvx - I couldnt
even do 4.0 on that one myself with maximum ram (4x16) -IMHO
netscape crashes when it can not read the java code etc on certain
sites ? I run a RAMdisk called Appdisk for the cache memory - it is
faster.
