I think that you can only use one socket at a time, and there's is 
really no other way to find out if they works - but I use my 10/100 
ethernet and it works great, do you have any reason to suspect that 
it would not work ? when i got the broadband I just hooked it up an 
there was no problem, there is a way to tell from TCP/IP if you have 
a connection with your broadband modem, and that is that you get an 
IP number startin with a 169. or so when you have established contact 
between the mac and the modem, and an IP number starting with 222. or 
so when the connection is okay all the way (of course that one might 
vairy a lot from place to place),
you could try to fileshare with another machine?
but why assume that its broken ?
