There are several Ethernet/Network related files in the extension 
folder.  I don't of hand know precisely what each does so I 
generalized. Turn on any extensions or control panels that are 
network related (including any  which you don't know what they do). 
If it still doesn't work then I'd recommend reinstalling either the 
network software or the whole OS.
