It depends on the OS version and or machine.  I just checked and the 
only machine I found it on was a NuBus model, the PCI models didn't 
have it.  IIRC "Apple Built-in Ethernet" is for the NuBus built in.

The info button in the Custom Install windows of the OS Install disk 
may indicate what particular files are for.
