I sometimes have an identical problem on my brand new iBook, so I
suspect it might be software-related with iTunes. I select the song to
play, the pointer moves (indicating the song is playing), but there is
no sound. I can sometimes get sound again by playing a sound in
another app like Quicktime, then switching back to iTunes. Otherwise,
I have to restart iTunes, and one one or two occasions, I've had to log
out and back in to OS X. It's mildly irritating, but doesn't happen
often enough for me to worry.
