A few of things to look for in any ISP besides price:

1. How far are you from the DSL server? The further away, usually the
slower and less reliable the connection. DSL is only good out to a certain
distance. (I can't get DSL at my present address because I am too far from
their building.)

2. How much noise is on your phone line? DSL uses some of the same
telephone lines as dial up. DSL in Las Vegas is slower than cable even
though it is supposed to be 2 to 4 times faster. Line noise requires much
more "hand shaking" to verify data transmissions and thus slows the
connections. It is rare to get more than 33k in Las Vegas with a 56k dial
up, (I averaged about 22k with Earthlink in my dial up days.) while friends
with DSL say they get about 90-120k. My cable tests at over 200k with 6-8
Macs sharing the connection via my network. (at the same price as local
DSL) Friends in other parts of the country run 2-3 times my cable speed
with their DSL connections, so there is quite a difference between regions.
(The noise on the local phone lines explains to me why Sprint doesn't do the
"Pin drop" commercials here!)

3. Support? Are they Mac friendly? Do they understand Macs or do they try to
solve problems using PC references? Do they blame your computer when there
are problems on their server?
