And worse, they respond to such loads not by slowing down, but by locking up...
I've had mine for almost a year and have five computers that it routes to. It has NEVER locked up on me.
That's great!
May I have some details? Exactly which make & model router? What vers firmware? How fast in the downstream pipe into it? What is your average load - ie, how much of the pipe is in use and how many tcp & udp connections are running thru it?
We ran into trouble in the models we tested when we had each client computer open more then two or three connections...
Hope you don't mind if I jump in on this thread. I also use a router, and have for the past year and a half, with zero problems.
Here is my setup: Modem: SpeedDtream 5360 Ethernet ADSL Router: Linksys EhterFast 4-port cable/DSL with 4-port switch; model is BESFR41 ver2; Firmware is 1.40.2 Oct 23, 2001
Computers are in three separate rooms, for a total on one connect of 18 computers. Each room has a 3COM Baseline Dual Speed Hub (12 port) Model: 3C16592B SuperStack 3. Every thing is cabled with CAT5e
What the up and down pipe is, couldn't tell you. It's a standard Bellsouth DSL line. At any one time there is a minimum of 4 computers on line doing file searches and down loads. The last time I noticed more than two downloads at a time was two weeks ago when five were downloading database structures. Each had a steady 35-38k. Then when the grandkids come over, there can be up to 12 on line at the same time, with no complaints of a slow down.
