I'm fairly new to Macs, and have enjoyed playing around with the 7200 I
bought a few weeks ago. However its lack of performance is really starting
to annoy me. I've looked at its' upgrade path which sounds ok, but I want
your advice on whether it is really worth it. For AU$637 (around $420 US?) I
worked out I could install:

Sonnet G3 400
extra 256mb RAM (total then being 288mb)
ATI Radeon 7000 PCI video card
USB+Firewire card
Quantum 18.3GB 7200rpm SCSI HD

Dunno about Australian prices, but here you could get a Blue and White G3 or possibly even a low end G4 system for that money.

You would see a VAST improvement in performance, modern RAM, IDE drives, etc.

Don't spend a dollar (AU or US) on the 7200!

I don't recommend spending any upgrae money on anything less than a beige G3 and even those are quite questionable now, imo.
