I upgraded my 9500 to 9.2.1 only because I bought an ATI 7000 video card,
and to get full video accelleraton it requires 9.2.1. That's the only
reason I upped from 9.1

However, it seems that the ATI works fully just by adding the OpenGL and
other ATI drivers from 9.2 to the 9.1 system folder (and, of course, the
newest software upgrade from ATI...) Off hand, can't remember the exact
extensions I moved, probably all of the video-related ones.

If you can do that (move the video parts from 9.2 to your 9.1 system folder)
then that might be the way to go.
