Thanks for the info. Is there a place for a second drive in the 5400? If so then that is the way to go for stability.
Well, yes and no.
The CD drive is a plain old 50 pin SCSI connection. If you can live without a built in CD drive, you can get a hard drive in there.
Now, there's nothing preventing you from using an external hard drive for your Linux package and you keep your CD drive.
Or... if you plug in the right USB PCI card that has an internal USB port, you might be able to shoehorn a USB hard drive into the bay for the TV Tuner card.
Or... if you've that USB card with the internal port, you could stick a USB flash drive in the internal port. Gigabyte flash drives are available, if rather pricey. I don't know that this would work with what you want to do, though.
I think the easiest solution is to go with an external drive. Used enclosures and drives are cheap enough these days.
