Hi Neal,

Do you have a CD-burner? If you do, you should be able to burn that Windows NT
service pack onto it using a common standard format, and since your Orange Micro card
gives you the ability to "see" the CD-ROM drive in Windows, you should be able to run
the service pack from there.

My experience is that Windows NT with no service pack is not very much fun, and a lot
of things don't work all that well until you go to at least SP4, but SP6a was the best
and last major update available. It may be that NT will not see the Apple side of
things until you install SP6a.

These Orange Micro cards must have some cool software bundled with them. NT4
Workstation cannot natively "see" any apple partition without 3rd party software. The
Server version can allow you to create an Appleshare volume that works reasonably well.

Failing that, you need to find someone with broadband who can download the "network"
SP6a (it is about 30-odd meg from memory) and burn it to a CD for you.

If you get really stuck, e-mail me off-list and I will send you a copy of the original
NT4SP6a CD (remember I am in Australia though!)

Apologies for the following - it is OT, and shows my true heritage as a Pee-Cee guy....

Please also note the following:
1. There are two versions of the Windows NT service pack - a standard encryption
version and a high-encryption version. If you get the standard version, and upgrade
your Internet Explorer to 5.x or above, you will not be able to re-install this
service pack. Only the high-encrypt version will work. [NT4 will require you to
re-install the service pack after adding a feature from the original CD at a later
date]

2. Please ensure that if your Internet connection is not protected by a firewall that
you do something about that real quick. NT4 is not quite as vulnerable as Win2K or
XP, but if you have a "direct" connection to a broadband link from the NT system, you
WILL have a problem. It will just be a matter of time ... oh the joys of Windoze.
Norton Internet Security does a reasonable job, as does the free ZoneAlarm software.

Good luck

Gavin
